In the case of 2 or more people who open an account together (spouses, friends, parent & child, etc), sharing the right to use one account as Joint owners, there can be complications.  If several people have a joint account and one dies and there is money in the account, the account is frozen by the bank.  This difficult situation can be avoided at the time of opening the account
