The Latin sentence (from Metamorphoses by Publius Ovidius Naso) meaning: “I see the better way and approve it, but I follow the worse way”, reminds me of our current government -or better the “security cabinet” (“kabinet a medini”) – in this latest, but not the last operation.
I doubt if we could have performed worse, or made more immature decisions, but the most painful of all is knowing we have taken the most immoral steps towards our own people. We abandoned those in need of protection in the south.
This is unforgivable and unacceptable.
“Punica Fides”:
Alluding to Roman mistrust of Carthage, the word of a Carthaginian (like Hannibal) was not to be trusted, nor could a Carthaginian be relied on to maintain his political relationships and again, we – the Israelis – seem to have learned nothing from history!
Just the opposite, we have engaged again and again in mediation and negotiation with Hamas – the same terrorist organization that gained a right to represent the Gaza territory because we gave them that land (to the detriment of thousands of Israelis who labored for 30 years to turn that land into an oasis) on a golden platter and for what? Just to see it become another enemy country “De Facto” bordering Israel? A decision the enabled Hamas to be recognized as a “De Jure” representative.
Soon we will be seeing every one of our distinguished politicians blaming each other for the blunder they have created, for the bad and wrong decisions they all have made. It is too late to mend them; we have already lost many of our best children, caused too much pain and suffering to others and accomplished absolutely nothing substantial – neither politically, nor militarily.
Take responsibility:
“Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.” John F. Kennedy
I don’t see any Israeli politician in the near future (or ever) taking responsibility for their mistakes. This syndrome is called in Hebrew “Tismonet a Shin Gimel”. Let’s blame the security at the gate, the lowest level guy in the decision making pyramid, but not those making the real decisions.
This game may be over but we still need you:
The operation may be over, but the struggle is far from being resolved. The State of Israel needs good people like you here, side by side with us.
There is no substitute for those fighting on the front lines or those in care of the logistics. A war is fought by real people. We are a living example that money is important, but the human factor is much more. Your donations before and during the war are certainly important and we are thankful for them, but nothing is more important than you coming home and contributing to the demographic shift that must take place in order for proper Jewish leadership to be elected.
